The City of Las Vegas has begun to send letters to our
members after their annual physicals if any predisposing conditions have been
identified that could lead to heart or lung disease. The letter advises the employee to follow up
with their primary healthcare provider and that failure to correct the
condition may jeopardize your workers’ compensation benefits.
Although the City has now elected to send these letters, it
has been in statute as outlined in NAC 617.080 for many years. Your principal officers strongly encourage
you to follow up with your primary care physician and address any concerns
noted on your annual physical. You
should also maintain personal records of the follow up appointment.
Also, we encourage all of you to seek assistance from your
principal officers if you are having any issues with workers’ compensation
claims. There are time frames for
submitting and appealing claims that if not met could adversely affect your
claim and we want to ensure that all of your rights under the law are followed.
Lastly, effective February, 1, 2014 all worker's
compensation claims previously handled by the City of Las Vegas will now be
handled by Cannon Cochran Management Services, Inc. (CCMSI), 702-933-4800. The process of submitting a claim has not
changed. CCMSI will administer all claims
once they receive it from the city. Once
again, contact your principal officers with any issues.

Prescription Benefits Manager Change
I wanted to remind everyone that Las Vegas Firefighters Health and Welfare Trust has changed pharmacy benefit manager as of January 1, 2014. We are no longer with Express Scripts. The new pharmacy benefit manager is Navitus Health Solutions. You should have received new ID cards from Hometown Health last month. The new cards have an orange Navitus logo on the front. Please discard all previous ID cards. If you have not received the cards, contact Hometown Health at 1-800-336-0123.
The trust will be using the True Choice Pharmacy Network. The pharmacies in the network are:
· Albertsons Sav-on
· Longs Drug Store
· Osco Drug
· Partell Medical Pharmacy (exclusive compound provider with preauthorization required)
· Lin’s in Overton, but not until 2/1/14
Contact Navitus at 1-866-333-2757 for any questions on preauthorization, retail prescriptions, mail order, or specialty medications. Make sure that you have your member ID number when calling in.
If there are any issues that Navitus can’t resolve, please contact me at 702-524-1312 or Joe Wieland at 702-306-3119.

Safer City Program and
1285 is looking for help in kicking off a smoke detector campaign in the City of
Las Vegas. We need volunteers to be at Fire Station 1 on January 20th

We will also be highlighting and kicking off the
Safer City Nevada campaign in conjunction with Henderson Firefighters where we
will join forces on various public relations campaigns in an attempt to make our
Cities safer for our citizens in Southern Nevada.
Please wear your class
B uniform or any Las Vegas Fire tee shirt if you are off duty. If you have any
